DESIGN TIP: Creating a Start
In this segment, my client Laurie and I are looking for inspiration and ideas for a color pallet in regard to creating a start on our project. Our project is a complete renovation of a historical building located in downtown Prescott, Arizona. Today we will be focusing on gathering swatches for commercial grade flooring, cabinets, and exterior & interior paint.
One of our showrooms stops will be at the Sherwin Williams paint center located within the Design Center, Scottsdale, Arizona. Beautifully designed, this paint center is well lighted and offers a user-friendly atmosphere in selecting paint finishes.
With so many options available, I feel that it is my job as working design professional, to keep my client focused and guided in a timely manner. I also want them to feel inspired about the process and not overwhelmed.
As our working relationship begins, I always encourage my clients to start an idea book of collected photos from magazines, interior or objects they desire. This idea book can be items such as fabrics, artwork, surfaces such as patterned area rug & piece of tile or just a paint swatch. Rather than trying to guess my client's style and use industry language they might not understand, these idea books are fabulous way for me to get directly to the point and help me better understand what my client is trying to achieve. Today was fun and I felt that we made great progress!
